I am so happy to be sharing my Iris fabric available in 7 colors and 9 types of fabric. (you can purchase it here )
It started with growing irises in my garden. From there I took some awesome photos of them when in bloom, they were the most beautiful irises I have seen. The flower is about 7 or 8 inches tall and 5 or 6 inches wide, so huge and the color purple with bright yellow accents are so rich and beautiful. Such an inspiration for me to paint. I wanted to catch the essence of the flower and use a loose flowing technique to paint a loose Iris. Here is the original photo..
Here is the loose painting, now on my fabrics. After much time spent cleaning my artwork and making sure the color is just right I prepared a repeating pattern for my fabric and this is the result.
About the Iris there are 260-300 species of the Iris. It takes it's name from the Greek word rainbow referring to the wide range of colors found among many species. It's a popular garden flower. They are perennial growing from creeping rhizomes or bulbs. They have long erect flowering stems which can be simple or branched solid or hollow and flattened or have a circular cross section. The rhizomes have 3-10 sword shaped leaves growing in dense clumps. The bulbous irises have cylindrical basal leaves. A fan shaped flower quite complicated with all the different petals some erect some laying sideways curling and others cascading forward in varying sizes, some have a beard like appearance growing in its mid line with another bright color at the base of the petals. Usually found in the northern hemisphere from Europe to Asia and North America. Found in dry mountainous areas, grassy slopes, meadow lands bogs and riverbanks. Grown as an ornamental plant in home gardens or botanical gardens. They grow well in most soil types as long as it is well drained. The most common is the bearded Iris, because they are easy to cultivate and propagate. Best planted as bare root plants in late summer in a sunny position with the rhizome visible at the top of the soil facing the sun. They should be divided every two years when the clumps become congested. They come in so many colors, blue and white, pale yellow, pale blue, maroon, white and violet, peach, raspberry, deep blue and purple along with multi-colored irises, just to name a few. I would highly recommend you learn more about the different types of Iris and definitely grow them in your garden. Painting the Iris has certainly given me more appreciation for the beauty of this flower. Having it in your home on your window covering or pillow can be a great reminder of their beauty and bring summer blooms you love into your home all year around. .....
Seasons are a time to be cherished. Having lived in very hot countries, Africa and Australia, I came to realize how lovely it was to have seasons, as it was either very hot or rainy and cool. The variety refreshes you and all the good things that come with the change make you feel alive. Like spring it is a time of renewing and freshness. A time of hope for sunshine and warmth. For me it is a time for inspiration and new color like the sunny yellow of daffodils, primroses, tulips and crocuses. The vibrant green of newly grown leaves. All these trigger inspiration to renew ones home with new ideas, new designs, newly painted walls, new objects that invoke memories and help to make new ones. A time when the beauty of the natural world we live in gets a chance to enter inside our homes.
So spring this year inspired my new spring floral prints. My garden was filled with spring flowers. Now I am so looking forward to summer, can't wait to see what I can grow and paint and enjoy this summer. How about You?
I hope you are enjoying spring as much as I have.

I just got back from a lovely visit to PEI on the east coast of Canada. My husband is from PEI so we got to see all his childhood special places. It was a very inspiring visit for my work too. The fields were laden with yellow mustard seed, wild pink roses, queen anne's lace and purple thyme.
White long beaches, light houses by the sea, fishing villages, quaint colorful houses and of course the rich red soil known for growing the best potatoes.
We enjoyed the quaint town of Victoria, there we saw a play at the little play house a fabulous show. Dancing Shoes. The town was filled with quaint colorful homes and country gardens.
I am definitely inspired to bring some PEI art and fabrics your way. If you are ever in St Peters Landing stop in at Freckles and Porcelain, I met a wonderful artist who has this most delicious gift shop full of hand crafted gifts for the home and clothing with a 1950's flair. If you are an artist there are so many more artisans worth visiting there I highly recommend a tour of them all.
I hope you enjoyed my little visit to the other side of Canada to Prince Edward Island. I look forward to sharing with you more of my new updated workshop.
Have a great week!
Finally it's time for a wonderful new studio, I am looking forward to the new work shop due to start any moment. I am excited for the new space. The new functionality of the work room will make a huge difference to my joy of the space. Already I enjoy a wonderful view of a lake with birds, bears, coyotes, large fir trees, mountains and lots of blue sky. But soon I hope to enjoy my coffee breaks on a wonderful patio just out side of the studio as well as the view from a much larger window. New crucial storage for all my fabrics with their own unit and a place for artwork are going to be so helpful. A new office, art and sewing space will be allocated for optimal function. The new fresh paint color I hope will help me feel even more airy and help the inspirations flow. The outside will have a new color, new entrance with flower beds for me to enjoy while I take a break from a hard days work. I can't wait to share with you updates as we go and look forward to showing the finished space. In the mean time work will continue in another space so it will be business as usual. I hope you follow me on my new little journey.
